The drought and extreme heat we have been having has really played havoc on the garden. There are a few signs of success, but nothing massive to report.
I am excited to see that two watermelons have started to grow. This to me is so fun as I am trying to do these by seed and I really didn’t think that anything was going to happen. Hopefully the grow to a decent size and we get to enjoy them.

The cherry tomato plants are doing well, as you can see we have some ready to harvest and more on the way.
The corn is starting to grown.. Not sure if we will actually be able to eat this corn or if the birds will have a great snack as it’s not getting real big, but again this was an experimental item for this year. Next year I will make sure it has it’s own box with lots more room to grown.

I think I am most disappointed in my pepper plants. I still only have two peppers and they are growing but very, very slowly. These look much bigger than it actually is.

The cucumbers have started to sprout. Can’t wait to have fresh cucumbers.. Yummm

Thanks for taking a peek at the garden, no matter how much we harvest, it great fun to watch grow.
It was brought to my attention by a dear friend (Hi Denise) that I hadn’t done a garden update in a few weeks so I thought that I would take care of that today.
Overall, things appear to be growing well. The broccoli didn’t make it, it has just been way to hot and I didn’t know it was a cold weather plant, better for the fall growing season so I will be planting it again in August with hopes John will get his broccoli this fall.
Here is one of the two square foot garden box we have . You are looking at Corn, Potatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers (green and red) and Green Beans.

I know it looks like we haven’t cut the grass but I promise you we did just two days ago. With all the garden watering the grass in that area of the yard is growing like crazy

Look, baby green peppers. Aren’t the cute??

I thought we had lost the cucumbers but this past week they really started to grow and take off. I actually had to stake the first plant yesterday and look… see the flower bloom
.

I am really not sure how the corn is doing. It isn’t as dark green as I have seen driving by the large fields of it. I did notice this growing out the top of one of the stalks. Is this a good or bad sign??

Here is the lettuce. I think we will be eating this in the next few days.

The cantaloupe has started to spread out and form flower buds

and lastly, our first cherry tomato. This excites me as these are growing from seed. Something I was told was very hard to do, but they have all taken off and gotten tall and strong.

Well that is it for the update… II hope everyone has a wonderful week. take care!.

Thank you for the comments on the bride and groom. They do make a great looking couple if I do say so myself.
I got so caught up in the wedding prep last week that I forgot to post our weekly garden update so here it is, what my garden looked like a few days ago
We have exciting news on the garden.. we pulled our first veggie.. a radish.. See how it had pushed its’ way out of the ground

Well here it is (actually two of them came up when we picked this one, oops!)

and here are the rest of the radishes. I think we are going to have to pick them all very soon and replant more for the summer.

and look at the potatoes. Yikes these are getting to be tall, bushy plants. I can see the flower buds on them and according to the books I have read once they flower and droop they are ready to pick so it won’t be long now.

The Broccoli is doing well although I have no idea how to know this, it just looks healthy to me

The green pepper seeds I planted a few weeks ago have now sprouted.

and lastly, look our first tomato of the season has arrived.

We’re still having a great time checking the garden and watching things grown but as I am very impatient I want everything to mature now so I can have my fresh garden salad.
I know…….. in time, all in good time
Anyone else have a garden and are you photo recording its growth? I would love to see your photos and read your tales.
Thanks for following along. Until tomorrow, be safe and well.
